The “Why” behind it all

Why did I name the business Tanglewood Concepts???

Growing up, my grandpa had a farm called Tanglewood Farms. My grandpa would work his day job and then come home and tend to the livestock… and two granddaughters. My mom was active-duty military so as little ones, my sister and I lived with my grandpa. My mom didn’t want us bouncing around from school to school so this was the solution. I was a lucky kid to have a mother that was willing to sacrifice having her kids around in exchange for our stability, and to have a grandpa that was willing to take on that responsibility.

My grandpa instilled in us the fine balance of working hard to support your family, while still laughing…and taking time to play some card games. Eventually the livestock was gone, but “the farm” was still home. The farm became simply known as Tanglewood.

My grandpa passed away in 2014. My soul was more than crushed. At the time, I was working at a job and although I was working with great people, I was very unhappy. I wanted more but didn’t know quite how to get there. The idea of Tanglewood Concepts was born. I want to honor my grandpa by enjoying life yet still working hard. Tanglewood Concepts will carry on what Tanglewood Farms stood for.

Why do I offer these services?

I decided I wanted to offer my knowledge and skillset to help folks in areas that they perhaps felt overwhelming, draining if you will. The more I worked with a network of small business owners, the more I saw value in services that I could provide for them. Bookkeeping seemed to top the list, but with each client we’ve identified other tasks that didn’t really fit into a “box”.

Seeing the stress dissolve from someone’s face when I tell them that’s something I can assist with. That, that right there is what I’m after as Tanglewood Concepts grows and transitions with other small businesses. Together we can create solutions and systems that help reduce the chaos that can quickly become overwhelming if not addressed early on.

What do I bring to the client relationship?

A cheesy smile and sometimes too loud of a laugh, is really what I bring to the table. Oh and a love of animals. But that’s just the fun part.

With years of experience in Quality Assurance testing, I came to realize my strength and passion for creating repeatable processes and consistent documentation. Reviewing contracts and cleaning up electronic clutter gives me great satisfaction. A former client has referred to me as a walking SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). I take pride in comparing documents and noticing where there are differences, and understanding if those differences should exist. This is certainly a valued attribute when reviewing a client’s bookkeeping.

In 2022, while working as a Commercial Building Project manager, I started to explore the world of bookkeeping. The more I got into it, the more I was drawn to it. I’m assuming because of the attention to detail required. I love being able to create those repeatable processes for clients and help ensure we’re keeping them in-check so that tax time is not so stressful.
